Environment: The Recycling loop
You could call it ‘the green revolution’. The paper recycling process ensures that the same fibres go round and round, reused up to seven times and keeping the carbon locked up in the recycling loop.
Three quarters of the paper we produce goes into making corrugated packaging. If we take a closer look at the corrugated recycling loop we see that over 75% of all corrugated cases are recycled in the UK.
Our part in this process can be summarised as follows:
- We receive the carefully graded waste paper and board which has been recovered from retailers and other organisations and businesses
- We turn this paper into pulp which is then screened and sorted into different length fibres depending on the type of paper to be produced
- The paper is made on a very large machine running at speeds of up to 1000 metres a minute and rolled up into jumbo sized reels
- The reels are delivered by our own fleet of vehicles to customers making corrugated board and boxes
- When the boxes have been used they are flattened and collected by our sister company Severnside, and the cycle begins all over again!
The same recycling principles apply to our other paper products such as coreboard, liner paper for plasterboard, educational and bag papers.
