Mills: Hollins

Hollins Mill, located in Darwen, Lancashire, is the only manufacturer of high quality recycled presentation liners in the UK. Optima Silk is a leading recycled liner which gives outstanding print quality. Hollins also produces mottle, brown testliners and chip.

The total annual production capacity of the mill is around 100,000 tonnes and it has two paper machines with the following widths: PM1 2800mm, PM2 2250mm.

The mill has benefited from continuous investment over the years. For example, a new water treatment plant and a highly sophisticated stock preparation process enables Hollins to produce the best quality recycled papers in as sustainable manner as possible. Its power plant, Central Power Services, has recently seen new burners installed in the three main boilers to improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions. Also in 2005 £1 million was invested in the paper machine in order to improve the smoothness and printability of Optima Silk.
